Nashville-Where There Is Always Something New!

A few years ago my parents moved to Nashville and recently I was able to visit them for 5 days.  I must say I was looking forward to spending some one on one time with them because it had been almost 20 years since I had that opportunity.  It was going to be a bit of a getaway.  My daughter was coming with me but ended up heading to Orlando with my sister on a Universal tour!  I was secretly happy I didn’t have to chaperone that trip!

Nashville has grown so much over the years and I am ready to explore it!  I asked my mom if she could line up some great spots to visit.  Our first stop was the  12th Avenue South neighborhood.   We headed right away to the famous  Five Daughters Bakery.  They have this wonderful thing called a cronut.  It is a hybrid of a donut and a croissant.  They made them from scratch and it takes 3 days to make one!   It is a slice of heaven in your mouth!  I am not a donut eater but a cronut?  I couldn’t resist!

The next place we hit up was Las Paletas.  They have avocado ice cream.  I asked myself, ” Could ice cream really be this healthy?  And delish?”  It was so yummy!  I was pleasantly surprised.  They have been in business for 14 years and have a modest place with a big following!

Of course I had to do some shopping.  My first stop was Draper James on 12th Avenue South.  Draper James was founded by Reese Witherspoon and who isn’t a fan of hers?  When we walked in they asked if we would like some sweet tea.  It was such a nice gesture and made the shopping experience even more fun!  There were so many boutiques and restaurants in this neighborhood, too many to mention them all.  I would highly recommend you pay a visit to this area.

The second day we went to The Gulch which is another neighborhood.  The personality of this neighborhood was vastly different from 12th Avenue.  It used to be empty lots and buildings and now it is the newest up and coming neighborhood.  Restaurants and stores are popping up daily.  We did hit a great little restaurant called The Little Octopus which is influenced by Carribbean and Latin American cultures.  I loved how fresh the food was and their cocktails were fantastic too!

Lucchese Bootmaker

I had to make a stop by Lucchese Boots.  They come from over 100 years of boot making craftsmanship and history.  I love the care they put into making each piece.  Their store was such a fun experience and they have an array of tasteful western clothing.  There are other stores along the way such as Frye Boot company, Urban Outfitters and some boutiques.  I would strongly suggest making a stop in either of these neighborhoods.

We also did a little dabble on the music scene.  One of the best bands I have ever heard was the Eaglemaniacs who played at 3rd and Lindsley.  They are exceptionally talented musicians and play music from the Eagles and Don Henley.  One of the most popular bands in Nashville.

It won’t be long till my next visit to Nashville, especially since my family is there AND it is such a cool place to visit.  Let me know some of your favorite spots and I will check them out on my next trip back.
