Summer Fun In Vail

They say that people go to Vail to ski and end up staying for the summers.  It is true!  The first few years of traveling to Vail all I ever experienced was skiing and the mountains, which of course is amazing!  And then we went out for the summer. Wow what fun we had.  We biked, hiked, white water rafted, fly fished and so much more!  I still can’t decide what is my favorite season.  Is it winter or is it summer? Well recently I went out to Vail and had a fantastic time with family and friends.

The first day we went up the gondola and experienced all of the activities at Adventure Ridge.  We did the zip line and the rock climbing to name a few.  I was pretty proud of myself for doing the rock climbing.  I am in decent shape but it is still so hard!  We later ended up hiking down the mountain.  It is so breath taking!  That night my hubby and I went to dinner at LaBotega, one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the village.

Rock Climbing in Vail

We did a second hike on our trip.  It was a new one for us and it is called Hanging Lake.  I have been going to Vail for 20 years and have not been on this hike.  I guess it is very popular and just 40 minutes west of Vail.  We decided to go.  The hike is short but has some pretty tough footing.  It is just a little over 3 miles and the scenery at the top is gorgeous!  Because of the fragile ecosystem it is forbidden to wade or swim in the lake and dogs are not allowed on the trail.  Behind the lake was another trail that led us to Spouting Rock.  It has a gorgeous waterfall.  It turned out to be such a nice hike and we were able to enjoy the scenery and have a quick picnic!

I love being in Vail because the mountains do call you and you end up going every time!  We are an active family and just love the memories we have enjoyed winter or summer!

Punta Cana Spring Break 2018

This year my family went somewhere different for spring break.  For the last 9 years we have been going to Marco Island, which I love, but the teens in our life were getting restless.  So we tried to find a place they would enjoy and stay busy.  A friend of mine told us the Hard Rock in Punta Cana is a great place to go with your older teens.  I have to admit, I was a little reluctant to go as I love the quiet peacefulness of Marco and the simplicity of our vacations there.  The Hard Rock was a bit overwhelming at first but once I acclimated myself I really enjoyed it.  Here are some of my highlights:

1.)  The Beach!  The thing I loved loved loved about Punta Cana was the beach.  The sand was so smooth under your feet! I didn’t feel like I do in some settings where I have to watch out for sting rays at every turn or sharks!  There are some beautiful beaches in the world but this one I wasn’t afraid to get deep in the ocean and enjoy it!  The waves were so amazing and I felt like a kid swimming.  It makes me smile just typing this.  On our last day before we left my husband and I headed out for one last swim.  The ocean did not disappoint that morning.

2.) Macao Surf Camp was the bomb!  Some family members highly recommended this company for surfing.  We booked ahead of time and went in the morning.  They were very organized and hospitable.  Each person in our group had their own coach.  They had about a half hour instruction before hitting the waves and then once in the water they were with you the entire time.  They even helped push your surf board to get your going. Half way through the lessons they bring you ashore and someone is there cutting up coconuts to give you FRESH coconut water to hydrate before you head out on your next surf.  It was fabulous and exhausting!

3.) The people.  The people in Punta Cana were friendly and we did not have a single negative experience with them.  The staff at the Hard Rock was spectacular.  We were fortunate enough to have our own staff person and she booked all of our itinerary for us.  We were able to go to dinner without a wait, book excursions and even our bali beds!  It was such a wonderful luxury.

4.) The spa at Hard Rock was the best.  I have been to a lot of spas around the country and the services were top notch.  The spa was clean, professional and the services were amazing.  I had a facial and a deep tissue massage.  One word… Amazing!  My friend had a chocolate wrap and said it was heavenly!

5.) The Fish Pedicure was also a cool experience!  I am the type of person that will usually try something once and in this case I am glad I did.  It was a little freaky at first but after about five minutes in a strange way you get used to it.  It kinda of tickled and also made me feel a little squeamish!  In the end, my feet felt fabulous!  It is one of those things you need to try at least once in your life.

My family was very excited to go to Punta Cana and if you have teens who are looking for some fun with their friends and families it’s a great spot. We always felt very safe and I am missing that beach and the view!  Great memories!

Vail, Colorado My Home Away From Home

Vail, Colorado is one of my favorite places! I love the mountain and the village is beautiful and quaint. My husband and I have been visiting there for 20 years.  Vail has a special place in my heart for so many reasons. My husband and I were engaged at the top of the mountain on New Year’s Eve 1998.  I remember the following day skiing and thinking to myself how lucky I was to ski in Vail with the love of my life and now I am going to be getting married to him!  In addition to that trip we have been having our family ski trips out there for 18 years!  The memories go on and on.  It truly is home for me.  I am excited to share with you some of the reasons I love Vail, Colorado! Watercolor Inn Is A Great Vacation Spot!

When I first started my blog someone said to me in the industry,”If you’re going to go to one conference I would not miss The Southern C!”  I saw it was hosted at The Watercolor Inn at Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.  I have heard a lot of good things about Watercolor and thought it was a perfect opportunity to go and explore.

My trip was just a few weeks ago and the weather was very nice and warm.  We flew into Destin and it was a short drive from there.  The Watercolor Inn is beautiful.  Very casual and relaxed.  They have their own private beach and the sand is a gorgeous powder white!  The rooms are very spacious and great for larger families.  Their customer service was warm and friendly.  I felt like the area was very safe and apparently it is a great place for teens and families to go during the spring break season.  I like the idea because it’s hard to find safe places and locations that have plenty of things to do for teens.  You can ride your bike or walk easily from place to place.

Tour of An Artisan Chocolate Factory; Cocoa Beans Galore!

Besides laying on a beach with a margarita how else would you like to spend a leisure afternoon?  Well, I say visiting an artisan chocolate factory doesn’t sound too bad!  I usually don’t have the time to leisurely walk through a chocolate factory.  However, on my trip this summer to visit my family in Nashville, I was able to do some indulgent exploring.  My mom mentioned the southern artisan chocolate company, Olive & Sinclair, and said they have tours we could attend.  I said, “Sign me up!”
