Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all of my friends at A New Day Lifestyle!  I am hoping you have had a great morning where ever you are.  Today I am opening gifts with my family and making Krupsua for breakfast.  I just love the time we have together relaxing around in our pajamas, drinking coffee and calling the rest of our family around the country and wishing them a Merry Christmas.  During your day don’t forget to pause and remember the reason for the season!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!  XOXO

Finnish Kropsua Pancakes For Christmas Breakfast

The first time I had this was when I was a kid at my grandma’s house for Christmas breakfast. Grandma was a meat and potatoes kind of cook. I remember how proud she was when she tried this new recipe and ALL the grandkids loved it (A task not easily accomplished!). Our family made it as a Christmas tradition for several years, but we haven’t done it in 20 years. This year I decided I wanted to pull it out and start the tradition again. I think she would be happy that I’m going to make it for my family.

Kropsua pronounced “Krup swa” is a Finnish Pancake that is delicious! I wish I could say that we are Finnish to make the story better but we are not. It is so buttery and good! If you like French toast you’ll love this. I think it’s actually easier to make then French toast. I’m looking forward to making this with my kids Christmas morning. If you try it this holiday season, let me know what you think!

Family Christmas Traditions & Memories To Cherish

I love the holiday season and all of the fun family Christmas traditions that go along with it.  I have such fond memories growing up and playing cards at my grandparent’s house.  We would snuggle in her warm house while the snow was flying and grab something yummy to eat and play card games.  I think about how blessed I am to have had those times and memories.  Since being married I have taken on some familiar traditions and added some new ones.  I think traditions bind us together.   The memories stay with us year after year even when we are not able to be together.  It is one of those things that brings us joy around the holidays. This is why I wanted to dedicate this blog post to family traditions.

The infamous 1000 PIECE PUZZLE!  When I was a kid my grandma had one sitting out for the month of December and whenever we were over we would work on it.  It was a fun pastime while watching Christmas movies.  However I think I just love the nostalgia and not the work of “doing” the puzzle.   One year my kids and friends in the neighborhood all came together to put the 1000 Piece puzzle together and in the end there were MANY pieces missing!  Ugh!  What a disappointment it was!  I laugh now but the kids were so bummed.

Making gingerbread houses is a tradition that I started when my kids were young. I have to say there is a learning curve to it!  The first time I started it I had powdered sugar all over the kitchen.  I had the hardest time with two toddlers keeping the gingerbread house from falling down and the frosting consistency perfect.  Thank God there is Google! I did learn a great trick along the way.  Use a hot glue gun to put the house together and then only use the frosting to decorate.  It makes things so much easier!  One year we had the gingerbread house too low to the ground on a table and our golden retriever ate half of it!  It is funny to reminisce about our botched houses and the enormous messes we have made.

Family Christmas Traditions Game Time

My family also enjoys several other traditions such as playing board games, cards, baking and watching Christmas movies.  Some of my favorites movies are White Christmas and Elf.  I could watch them over and over again.  I am guessing you have a few favorites too.  Of course there are other things we love to do but sometimes we don’t have the time.  We used to go to a near by farm and cut down a tree and we also enjoy checking out the lights around town.  It used to be so magical when the kids were younger.  I hope some day when they are older they reflect back with fondness to the traditions we did as a family, and I hope they carry some of them on too!  I would love to hear about your family traditions and fun things you have done with your family.  It is so enjoyable making memories with the most important people in our lives.  Looking forward to reading about your family Christmas traditions!

Tips For Decorating Your Doorstep This Christmas!

It’s that festive time of year when the doorstep and the house call to be decorated.  I am changing things up this year after using the same decorations for several years in a row.  It is a year to refresh.  I have to say that I like to do different types of “themes” throughout my house.  I like to have a more organic look for the front porch and then an elegant look inside our entryway.  Once inside we have another spot in the house with our home-made looking decorations and Christmas tree.  They are all my favorites and each give a different feeling.  Since this post is particularly about the front porch I want to offer you some tips that I have used for decorating: Continue Reading

PillowGrace – Rest Assured, Arise Restored

PillowGrace is such a fabulous company!  When I went to the Southern C Conference at Watercolor this past October I met the owner and founder Julie Rowland.  She is a wife, mother and successful businesswoman.   Her passion is people and love for God.  At the conference I heard her speaking from the audience as she was explaining her business and why she started it.  I thought, “I have to introduce myself to her, I want to share with her a similar experience I had.”
