Ahhh….FALL…. yes the only four letter F-word that is not offensive! Love this time of year. Many of us living in the Midwest look forward to fall. I welcome the cooler nights and all of the beautiful fall colors on the trees. I have a fall bucket list of things I love to do each year. Below are a few of them:
I don’t know about you but tailgate season or as some would call it, football season, is a great time of year! I love getting together, eating some food and hanging out with family and friends. Let’s face it, football season for me is another reason to have a good time! I do like the games but I am also a fair weather fan. In my opinion, best times for tailgating are early fall because in Michigan it can get cold quick! I try and avoid the snowy and rainy games!
My husband and I purchased some farmland a few years ago. We decided to use the land for trails, raising chickens, gardening and building bee colonies. Our family is enjoying this land and all the different things we can do with it. I recently heard about the decline of the bee population and how important their work is to the environment. This gave me the idea that it might be fun and interesting to have our own honey bees.
A great book that we used to get started was The Backyard Beekeeper. This book provides information ranging from everything beekeeping to making your own beeswax candles! It is full of many interesting facts about these amazing insects!
The first year our bees produced over 100 pounds of honey and we are on schedule to produce at least that much again this year. I get so excited when I can use the honey my bees produce in recipes, one of my favorites is this pear and pancetta appetizer. Anyway, I would love to share with you some really interesting fun facts about bees:
I didn’t always make the best choices in my earlier years about my skin care and now I am seeing the effects in my 30’s and 40’s. Devastated. I can’t believe what I see and hear about the massive amount of devastation that surrounds one of the worst Hurricanes to date, Hurricane Irma. This past weekend I was glued to the TV watching in disbelief what was occurring in our country and the countries nearby. I was personally effected, like many others, who knew loved ones who were either traveling in the South or living there. My personal reasons were many but one that I was most fearful of was our home in Marco Island. When the storm landed on Marco Island, what ran through my mind was how can I piece together our home from afar? How were are neighbors going to rebuild? How will people who can’t afford to rebuild their lives move on?
