Vail, Colorado is one of my favorite places! I love the mountain and the village is beautiful and quaint. My husband and I have been visiting there for 20 years. Vail has a special place in my heart for so many reasons. My husband and I were engaged at the top of the mountain on New Year’s Eve 1998. I remember the following day skiing and thinking to myself how lucky I was to ski in Vail with the love of my life and now I am going to be getting married to him! In addition to that trip we have been having our family ski trips out there for 18 years! The memories go on and on. It truly is home for me. I am excited to share with you some of the reasons I love Vail, Colorado!
I think one of the things that sets Vail apart is the mountain! The mountain is so big and the runs are long and wide. I have skied all over the country and even in South America but nothing compares to the runs and snow at Vail. The first time I went I was a beginner skier and the mountain was very forgiving. The locals say that most people come out to ski but end up loving the summer even more because it is spectacular! I have to agree…summer is equally amazing! Besides the skiing, Vail village has so much to do! There is always a fantastic place to Apre’. We have had some of the best memories at Pepi’s and Red Lion, they have live music that is always a great time. A couple of my favorite restaurants are Sweet Basil and La Tour. Their food is incredible! The quality and freshness across the board is always remarkable. One other place I love to go is Rimini Coffee Shop, they have the best gelato! My daughter and I always stop by and grab a hot chocolate and gelato after a great day of skiing!
The Vail shopping is fantastic and the village offers a wide range of shops from luxury to t-shirt shops. There is something for everyone and don’t forget the stores that support your outdoor activities such as Patagonia, Roxy and Arc’teryx. We always seem to find a little time do some shopping. One of the experiences that stands out was shopping at Kemo Sabe. It is a western store that sells mainly cowboy hats, bling to go with it (of course) and cowboy boots. Well, we went in to the shop and the first thing they asked us is if we wanted a drink. I thought, “It’s free? How nice of them.” Well by the time we left everyone from our group had purchased hats at a very sizeable price! Now I know why they fixed us drinks but it was worth the memories and I still wear my hat! The spas in Vail are really nice too. A favorite of mine is the Arie Spa. The services are exceptional and the people are awesome. We recently went there and had a massage and facial. It was wonderful after a day of skiing.
If you are thinking about heading out to the Rocky Mountains I would strongly suggest making your first stop there. If you make it to my home away from home, I’d love to hear about the memories you make there!
