Is anyone else tired after the Christmas celebrations but still wants to have fun on New Year’s Eve? That’s how I’m feeling this year! I like to keep New Year’s Eve simple and have a few close friends over for a small get together. I like to step it up a notch and add a few fun things to ring in the New Year. I can’t just invite people over without adding something special to the mix. I am including some of my favorites for you to choose from. You may want to do all of them or pick and choose the ones you like.
.) A must for any New Year’s Celebrations; Party hats and decorations! I get mine from Party USA but there are so many places you can purchase a few hats and noise makers. I love it when we have families come over and everyone enjoys trying on the different hats. Throughout the night everyone is mixing it up with black boas, princess hats, tops hats, fedora’s, fake mustaches and New Year’s glasses! If you want to do something fun you can make your own back drop. Start with a black sheet and hang it on a wall, then add a New Year’s Eve sign to do a photo booth. The pictures will make for plenty of great memories!
.) Fondue. Our favorite fondues to serve are oil for dinner and chocolate for dessert. For the oil fondue we make our own tempura batter and then dip shrimp, mushrooms and veggies. Sometimes we even cook chicken or steak. Make sure to Google cook times for the meat so no one gets food poisoning! For the dessert fondue, our favorite treats to dip are Rice Krispie Treats, strawberries, pineapple and marshmallows.
.) Kiddie Cocktails are fun for adults and children. It seems like there is so much indulging this time of year. I am open to something as simple as milk and cookies. The fun part is I put them in champagne glasses and top with chocolate chip or M & M cookies. They are great for the midnight toast if you don’t want to do any champagne. However, Veuve Champagne is my favorite!
.) I know some people are not that interested in games so I like to keep it short. We love doing piñatas. The best place to hang one is in your garage or basement where there’s plenty of room for people to get a full swing. I enjoy using fortune cookies in the pinata instead of candy. Encourage everyone to share what their notes say. It makes for fun conversation for the new year.
.) I love to reflect back on the previous year and think about how I have grown. How have I become a better person? What have been some of my biggest challenges? I have attached a questionnaire for you to use for yourself and to hand out to your friends at the end of the night. Or you can choose to do together during the evening. I have included a version for you to print, New Years Eve Reflection. I hope to learn from my experiences and maybe even share a few with my guests.
