5 Fashion Tips For Letting Your Personal Style Shine Through

Style is an expression of you!  When you get to be my age, you start to really have a personal style.  You know what you like and don’t like.  I think a common challenge among women is finding the balance between feeling comfortable and still staying on trend.

Here are a few personal style tips that I’ve learned along the way.

1.) Go for color.  Living in the north, I think many of us get into a habit of wearing too much black.  Neutrals are great but when you add a pop of color with different pieces and accessories it can make you look younger.  Just adding some gold and turquoise accessories will always help dress up a black outfit.  A little touch like this can make such a big difference.

2.) Don’t over do it with jewelry.  Too much of a good thing isn’t always a good thing.  I like jewelry to be either a single statement piece or something feminine and subtle.  Sometimes you can  overdo it with too much and it can make you come across as if trying too hard to impress.  Keep it classy with a touch of sass!

3.) Dress for your body type.  Knowing your assets and showing them off is the best way to look stylish.  I’ve found that working out has helped give my arms a nice shape and they have become one of my assets.  On the contrary, I don’t really have a defined waist.  Knowing this, I look for clothing that shows off my arms but helps create curves.  One of my favorite books is The Science Of Sexy.  It is a fantastic read about using clothing to balance your body.

4.) Spend some money on a pair of stylish shoes.  I am not saying you have to have stilettos but pick a pair of shoes that have some personality!  They can spice up any classic outfit.  Plus, shoes will always fit no matter what your weight!

5.) Wearing glasses or sunglasses is an easy way to keep your look fresh.  My mother has some of the hippest glasses, they range from different colors to shapes!  She knows how to stay current and what looks good for her face shape.  People have even stopped her while walking down the street, to tell her they like her glasses.  I must say I am proud of her for having fun with her choices.

Let your personal style shine through.  Don’t worry if your staples items are a little older in style.  You can always update your look with newer accessories such as shoes, glasses and jewelry.  It is the best way to look hip as far as I am concerned!  You can’t go wrong!

Some of the clothes shown came from a locally owned boutique, Eclections.  They carry a full selection of clothes, jewelry and shoes and have terrific customer service.  I love to shop local and look through the newest products that fit my personal style.
